Swanky stationary featuring you and your pup

Looking for a great way to spoil yourself or a fellow trendy dog lover? If so, I highly recommend you check out the personalized stationary from Design-her Gals. I received this stationary as a Christmas present and I was very excited when I saw that not only was my name on the note pad, but also a figure that looks and dresses like me and she was with a dog who looks just like my puppy Baxter!

The stationary from Design-her Gals allows you to make your own gal to be printed on the note pads and you can pick everything including her hair and eye color, her clothing and her accessories…which obviously for us swanky dog owners means our dogs. They have over 100 dogs to choose from and a wide variety of breeds so almost everyone will be able to find the right match to go with their gal.

Not only do they sell trendy note pads featuring your gal and your pup, but they also have stationary, invitations, calling cards, business cards, address labels and t-shirts. They even have personalized e-cards you can send to friends and family featuring your gal. Treat yourself to this stylish stationary and you will be looking for excuses to write notes to your friends!

Going away for New Years?

I recently got a tour of my local PetSmart PetsHotel and Doggie Day Camp. What a cool place to house your pup when you need to travel or spend extended amounts of time away from home!

The facility was extremely clean and attractive. And it seemed very homey, too. You can get a dog atrium room (complete with lambskin blanket and a poochy cot) or a dog suite (add a TV with pet themed shows!). I like that there are always caregivers there, 24 hours a day. They are each safety-certified and vets are always on call (and some in the store!) There is a 24-hour monitoring system as well.

Some of the other great features include:
- extended pick up and drop off hours (including Sundays)
- Doggie Day Camp -- all-day play in their play room, is available for extra exercise and socialization
- There are separate cat and dog ventilation areas which minimize stress, and the air is circulated 3 times and hour. (And the entire hotel is air conditioned)
- Pet drinking water is filtered
- Best of all -- there is an area for pet parents to call and speak with their pets!

Additionally, you can have your dog groomed or trained while they stay at the pet hotel.

Rates are $25/night and up. (You can add things like extra play time and extra treats!) Take a video tour and see how neat this concept really is. If you need a place for your pet to stay, I would definitely consider your local PetSmart PetsHotel! (And if you stop by to check it out, pick up a copy of their free 2008 calendar -- it has a ton of coupons in it for grooming, training, and hotel stays)

Swanky Pup of the Week!

This special boy is Boomer, the 13 year-old Shetland Sheepdog from Langhorne, PA. He is a loving and loyal dog who is happiest when he is surrounded by his family. Boomer may have slowed down a bit with age, but he can steal a sandwich off of your plate at lighting speed and will do anything for a slice of cheese. He has a special connection with his people and can tell when they are not feeling well and he has been known to stick by their side to nurse them back to health. Even in the face of his own health problems Boomer has been such a trooper and his family feels lucky for each and every day they get to spend with him.

Nicknames: Boom Boom, Boomie

Likes: Being with family, cuddling, sleeping on his favorite blanket, getting attention, food (especially cheese), going for walks, when his brother Buster gets locked in the laundry room

Dislikes: Other dogs taking attention away from him, being downstairs all by himself, when his brother Buster bites him, being brushed or groomed or inspected in anyway, getting his nails clipped

Pawaprazzi Pets -- an adorable idea for little girls!

My aunt just got a tiny 1 1/2lb. teacup chihuahua puppy. I think one of the most appealing reasons to get a little dog like this is their portability -- they can go everywhere with you!

A perfect gift for her daughter would be a Pawparazzi pet. These adorable little pets are "celebrities" -- living the life of glamour, fashion, and travel.

Pawparazzi can be enjoyed by girls on many levels. They can read about their pets in Pawparazzi Magazine and on their website. The pets can be outfitted with trendy bags, fashion jewelry and collectible charms that young girls love. Their fascination with tiny things and their imagination playing in the world of their pets can be shared with friends!

New pets are introduced a few times a year, and currently there are about a dozen pets to choose from. Introduce a favorite little girl in your life to these adorable pets and I bet she will be in love!

Wanted: Extreme chewers large and small

Can your dog destroy every toy you give him/her? If so, then you should try the Orbee Tuff dog toy. They are virtually indestructible and even the most extreme chewers will have trouble destroying this toy. It comes in a lot of fun shapes like the tennis ball, football, eggplant, strawberry, magic 8-ball and more and they have a minty scent to help with your dog's breath.

Though my puppy’s teeth did not make a dent in the ball, he still had a lot of fun chasing around this very bouncy toy. Also, it is perfect to take with you out to the park since it is buoyant and easy to clean.

If your dog likes to fetch, play with balls or is an extreme chewer then this is definitely the toy for you. Find it at Amazon.com in small, medium and largeand a variety of different colors for less than $12.

Ice Cream Treats for your Dog

My dog is obsessed with food. She has eaten everything from cat litter-box treats to filet. One of her all-time favorite treats, though, is Frosty Paws, ice cream made for dogs.

Dogs love these treats because they are refreshing and yummy. And you can feel good about giving it to your dog because the ice cream is fortified with protein, vitamins and minerals that dogs need, and there is no added sugar, artificial flavors or colors.

Available in original flavor and in peanut butter, the treats come in dixie-type cups so they are easy to give to your dog. (I just stick the cup in my dog's bowl and she stays there for awhile licking away!)

If you are interested in learning more, check out this interesting article that tells you more about Frosty Paws.

Available at most grocery stores in your freezer section, try them today!

Swanky Pup of the Week!

This cutie pie is Milo, a playful English Bulldog, who came all the way from Georgia to join his loving family in Audubon, PA. Milo loves to meet new people and being the center of attention and will wag his little stubby tail to show you how excited he is to see you! He also is not shy when it comes to playtime and will pick up his ball and poke you with it to let you know he is ready to play. His owners are very lucky to have such an adorable and loving pooch!

Nicknames: Little monster, gizmo, nubbin, milokins, little bastard, fatty and butterball.

Likes: Playing outside with other puppies, taking naps in his bed, sitting in laps and meeting new people

Dislikes: The vacuum cleaner and not being the center of attention

Are tear stains a problem for your pooch?

My dog is very easy to groom and very low maintenance, except for 2 things: her ears and her eyes. She always needs her ears cleaned (and I found a great cleaner for that... another review for another day) and she always has tear stains (crusty, hard, you know what I mean!) around her eyes.

I recently learned about a product formulated to help with this exact problem! happytails Canine Spa line just introduced Eye Pack, an all-natural, dual-action product that works both internally and externally to clear away tear stains and help prevent them. Step 1 are eye pads which you use to wipe your dogs eye area. Step 2 is an immunity-booster powder that you add to your dogs food to help reduce bacteria in their body. Learn more about the 2 steps and read about the ingredients if you are curious!

All of the Happytails Spa products are adorably packaged and smell great. My dog was willing to let me try the pads on her and after a few tries her eye gunk seems to have cleared up a good amount. (I haven't tried it for too long yet to really tell in the review but it definitely seems to help!)

Also, happytails sells and markets all different kinds of spa products for the dog about town. They use the finest (“better than human quality”) ingredients available to pamper, soothe and beautify today’s harried hound. I also got to try the Dry Dog, a spray-on bath replacement with kiwi and aloe (perfect for my stinky dog, it smells great!) and Comfy Dog Oatmeal Conditioner for dry and itchy skin.

Dress your dog like the celebs in Burberry

I was recently reading US Magazine which featured Kristen Davis (Charlotte from Sex and the City) and her 3 adorable dogs. They were all wearing Burberry Plaid Wool Coats and looked so cute.

The coat comes in a number of sizes to fit tiny dogs to large dogs, and prices range from $90 to $145 through Uptown Pets. (The Burberry website features a different type of sweater that is over $200 -- we think this one is just as cute for less!)

Made of Merino wool and machine washable, this coat will be the perfect accessory for your ultra-trendy dog. Not only will they look fabulous, but they will stay nice and warm, too!

Popcorn for your dog!

My dog absolutely loves popcorn. Every time we make a big bowl he forgets all his training and practically jumps into my lap to get some. Harold slurps up every piece that drops on the ground and manages to get a few from us as well. He usually ends up getting to eat more popcorn than we do. Thanks to WoofyPop, no more sharing your popcorn with the dog when he can have his own!

WoofyPop Dog Popcorn is made just for our furry friends. High in fiber, it comes in delectable flavors such as grilled filet mignon, creamy cheddar cheese, roasted chicken and sizzling bacon. Harold loved the bacon and chicken flavors. I stayed away from the cheese, as much as Harold likes it his stomach does not.

We first learned about it through a friend who purchased it in a pet boutique but it is also available online at target.com and many other online stores. WoofyPop comes in 12 packs of single-serve 1.6 ounce bags that make 4 cups of popped corn. Recommended serving size: 1 cup for every 10 lbs. of dog’s weight. So remember for the smaller dogs save some for another time!

Surprise! A great gift idea for the pup you love

Do you love surprises? I do, and I was surprised and delighted when my dog Baxter and I received a package from Surprise a Pet. The surprise arrived in a beautiful red box, wrapped in ribbon with a minty dog bone attached to the bow. Inside there were great, unique products that you can’t find at any old pet store.

My Surprise a Pet present included a delicious smelling Y.U.M. mist from Indigo Wild, which made me happy when Baxter instantly smelled better…no bath needed! Our present also came with the Fling Thing by West Paw Design (which is a durable upgrade from a regular Frisbee) and Good Dog hand-baked treats in the blueberry cobbler flavor. Every item in the box was a hit with my pup and it was exciting unwrapping it and letting my dog enjoy the goodies inside.

A gift from Surprise a Pet is an amazing way to spoil a special dog in your life and show them you love them. There are lots of presents to chose from like Spa Dog, Spoil Me, Fun in the Sun and New Puppy and their Christmas present is perfect for the holidays.

Once you receive one surprise you will be addicted! For surprise-addicts like me, join the country’s first gift club for dogs at Surprise a Pet for a fabulous surprise month after month…your dog will love you for it.

A great gift idea!

I have been doing a lot of holiday shopping lately in my local area malls, and everywhere I go I see the most adorable pets. But these are not real pets (though they look it) -- they are called Perfect Petzzz, the "authentic breathing" pet.

This is a great holiday gift for a friend or family member who wants real pet ownership experience without the hassles and expense. Or for a child who wants a pet but isn't ready to handle the responsibilities of a real pet yet. It would also be a great gift for someone who loves pets but has terrible allergies. Honestly, even people who have "real" pets (like me!) would love one of these adorable creatures sitting around the house. I know in my house my Perfect Petzzzz would be the best behaved child/pet around!

These adorable pets come in a ton of choices for both cat and dog. Almost every breed is represented for dogs, and lots of variations of colors for kitties.

The pets actually truly look real. From their 100% synthetic fur to their features to their little bodies that breath like a real pet when sleeping. Each pet comes with a:
  • Collar with Pet Tag
  • Pet bed
  • Brush
  • Adoption Certificate
  • Pet carrier
  • 1 'D' Alkaline battery
Check out this adorable idea and adopt one for a friend or yourself. Currently on Amazon, some adorable petzzz are on sale for 20% off, including a Perfect Petzzz Orange Tabby, Perfect Petzzz Pug, Calavier King Charles, and a Perfect Petzzz Golden Retriever.

Even though he is a big boy, he likes to sleep in bed with his mommy and daddy and wants to go everywhere with them, especially if the trip includes a car ride. He is extremely social with other people and dogs and will greet you by jumping up as high as he can...but be careful, he is a digger and so those big paws are bound to get you dirty!

Nicknames: Duc, Buddy

Likes: His pink fuzzy elephant and puptreads tire, tennis balls, swimming and going to the park, digging, cuddling, chasing the cats, eating poopy (preferably out of the litter box)

Dislikes: Being separated from his "sister" Zero and being alone

Smelly dog? No longer! (Contest -- see details below!)

My dog always seems to smell. No matter how much I bathe her, she still seems to always find the smelly mulch outside (and other smelly things if you know what I mean) and rubs it all over herself (I know, gross!). With two small kids at home, I hardly have the time to bathe her as much as I need to. So I just make do with a smelly dog. Until now...

Sexy Beast fragrance and products have turned my bad-smelling dog into a good-smelling dog, long after her bath! The fragrance is paraben-free, hypo-allergenic and features a unisex blend of bergamot and vanilla-infused musk combined with natural patchouli, mandarin and nutmeg oils. The bottle is extremely sleek and stylish (hey, it is sold at Harrods, it HAS to be nice!) and has an integrated seamless pump and a beautiful sensual soft touch finish.

Sexy Beast also carries a number of products for your dog's coat (shampoo, conditioner, finishing products, etc) and they feature some beautiful gift sets perfect for the holidays. Check out the Limited Edition Holiday Jet Set from Short Order Dogs and get 10% off by emailing them with your information and the subject line "The Swanky Pup"!

*** Now is your chance to win some Sexy Beast products, including a full-sized bottle of their signature fragrance, and two coat care finishing products (fresh and gloss). These products are worth a total of $100. For your chance to win, simply head over to our boards and tell us your smelliest dog story. The one who has the best story wins all three Sexy Beast products! Please submit your entry by December 19th. The winner will be announced on December 21st. (Please note: you must register to post. Registration is free and only takes a minute!)

No bones about it...a swanky leather collar for your pooch

One essential for all swanky pups is a swanky collar, which is why I recently purchased this mocha leather studded collar for my puppy. It is perfect for those of us with little boys that we want to look stylish without being too girly.

The mocha leather is soft and the collar is extremely well crafted so it is built to last and will put up with a little abuse from your pooch. The adorable baby blue bones look great against the brown leather and the contrast makes them really pop. Also, they are attached with rivets so you will not have to worry about them falling off and all of the hardware is made out of sturdy chrome.

Everywhere I go with my puppy we are always getting compliments on this collar and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish, yet durable leather collar for their pooch.

Find this collar starting at only $18 from The Pampered Pup and check out the matching leash as well!
