Need to hang it up?

I don't know about you, but I depend on my refrigerator for a lot of reasons. Yes, I need it to keep my food from not spoiling, but I also use it as my bulletin board. I have pictures, my calendar, coupons, and my daughter's artwork all posted to the outside of it. You can imagine my collection of magnets I have to keep all of this stuff hanging up.

I found great magnets on a artisans website called Etsy.com. The artist is Brianna Lennox and she designs magnets with dogs on them. There are six magnets in a package. Brianna is a very talented artist and her artwork will add such flair to any refrigerator. If you don't need any magnets, you should still check her out on the Etsy website. I'm sure there are other things that she makes that you will be interested in.

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24291165

When you place an order, Brianna will offer you a $2.00 rebate when paying through PayPal. Simply enter "I have a Swanky Pup" in the note to seller area on the page. Happy shopping.

Doggone Pools

If your dogs love the water as much as my dogs and you don't have a pool, One Dog One Bone has the pool for you. Their pools come in doggy shapes such as paw prints and bones and are "tough as nails" so your dog won't go through one fast like with regular kiddie pools. They run around $300-$800 but hold as much as 85 gallons. What is neat is that they are only about 7-21 lbs when empty so they're easily moved or stored. If you stop by their dogs in pools area you can see all dogs having fun in the pools. I think these are an excellent idea for your furry friend.

Hand made collars

I recently had the pleasure of testing out Roverdog8's stylish handmade collars on all three of the pups and let me tell you, they are gorgeous! I tried out the collars and leashes and I couldn't be more pleased.

Each piece is meticulously hand made using the finest quality materials and carefully chosen trims. Their collars feature a signature lamp work bone bead made exclusively for Roverdog8 by one of two accomplished Canadian bead artists that they use.

You can see by the pictures how breathtaking they are and not only are they stylish, they're very well made. Our dogs are full of energy and not once has their collars come off or a single stitch out of place. They're so painstakingly created and the jewel work is breathtaking.

While you can download an order form right from their site, they also list the many retailers that sell their products. They even have a sizing chart so you get a perfect collar. I have to also add that my package came perfectly packed and with the best customer service.

If you're looking for a collar that is functional yet stylish, check out their products and see why I'm sold on them.

Ginger Pup Lane--Canine, Culture & Couture

I am addicted to the Internet and spend many hours searching for sites offering unique dog products. My most recent find is Ginger Pup Lane.

The site offers many typical dog products, like leashes, grooming supplies and beds, but the products definitely embody the store's tag line--culture and couture. For example, there is the Pin Up Bloom Bed for the smaller dogs:

So cute! Another unique find, especially for all the Marvel Comic fans, are the limited edition puppy products featuring such classics as Captain America and The Incredible Hulk. Click here for more information.

And on that next special occasion, treat your pup to the Cookies and Cream Pup Pie!

Tick season is here...

This weekend the weather was beautiful here in Philadelphia so I took a long hike with my dog at Fairmount Park. After a great time on the trails though I noticed him scratching at a spot on his neck and after further investigation I noticed he had picked up a new friend at the park - a tick! Even with using Frontline on a monthly basis, sometimes you just can't avoid keeping ticks off your pup, which is why I am glad that I have the Tick Key to safely remove them.

The Tick Key is an amazing device that allows you to remove a tick quickly, easily and the safest way possible. All you have to do is place the tick in the teardrop whole of the key, slide it down into the tapered spot and pull the key up from the skin to remove the entire tick.

The Tick Key is the best way to remove a tick, not only because it easily removes the entire tick from your pup, but also because it does so without risk of squeezing or crushing the tick which can force body fluids from the mouth of the tick and onto your dog, increasing risk for disease.

Be prepared for ticks with the Tick Key from The Ritzy Rover Pet Boutique for only $5.99 - a small price to pay to keep your pup safe from these annoying and dangerous little parasites.

Doggy Playground

I have finally found the coolest thing ever for my dogs. Since we don't have children, I've always wanted one of these cool playgrounds but for who? Well, now I can own my very own doggy playground! Dog Star Enterprises has them ready to shop. They're priced at in the thousands but they do have lower prices that you can get a quote on due to new prototypes being put out. They're large and perfect for the backyard and your active dog. I think my dogs would love one and they're definitely unique.

What you will get:

Paint: Two different color choices are included in the price. You may add more colors, for additional charges. Only the plywood parts can be painted.

Canopy: You may select from several basic color choices that we can send you a sample set of swatches to select from. Some may not always be available.

Slide: Depending on the playground, some slides may come in different colors, and if available, you may select your own color choice.

Click, click! Good dog!

Is your dog having a hard time walking with you? Do they pull, or run making your walk not very enjoyable? Well then maybe you and your pooch need a little help from The Clicker Leash.

The Clicker Leash is a leash that is also a training tool for your dog. With a simple click, you are able to gain your dogs attention, reward with a food treat and continue on your way. The click will soon come to mean "good dog". Your dog will want to hear that sound because after wards the dog knows that something yummy will be coming to him or her and will continue behaving well for you.

The Clicker Leash is getting a lot of positive PR right now because it has been selected to be the only leash in a basket of doggie goodies for the new "First Dog", that is joining his new family in the White House. As we all know, what comes with a new puppy is a lot of training and the Clicker Leash is the perfect tool to use.

The Clicker Leash does not need to be used only on walks. You can also use it for teaching basic commands such as, sit, stay, kiss, and if you want to get a little fancy, roll over. As soon as your dog equates a quick click with "good dog", your training will go on and on.

The Clicker Leash website is very informative and has specific instructions on how to use the leash. I recommend looking around the site and maybe you'll see that this is what you need to help train your dog.

Satisfy Your Dog's Inner Instinct with the Flappy Toy!

Dogtoys.com is one of my favorite on-line stores. I can shop by dog breed or size. My favorite new toy is the Flappy! This toy helps satisfy a dog's deep-rooted instinct to carry prey in its mouth. And because dogs have different preferences, the Flappy comes in five varities to suit your dog:

Tuffy--features a durable, reinforced woven fabric with a squeaker

Fluffy--made of soft and cuddly sherpa material and features flaps that crinkle

Fleecie--made from very soft and cozy fleece with a squaker

Flossy--made of natural canvas and has "flaps" of cotton rope with a squeaker

Floatie--made for retrievers and water dogs and has a floating rubber core. It's wrapped in bright blue and orange nylon material which is highly visible in the water.

These toys are available in sizes small to extra-large and range in price from $7.99 to $16.99. For a limited time, you can get the Flappy for 25% off by using coupon code FLAPPY during checkout. But hurry, this offer expires May 1, 2009.

A must-have for all off-leash excursions

I love taking my dog Baxter on hikes through Fairmount Park. As soon as we are off the main path and on the trail I take his leash off and let him follow me and explore. He does not try to run away and stays by my side, but when we see another dog approach or a biker coming our way, it is always a struggle to quickly get him back on leash and out of the way. This is no longer a problem though thanks to the Quick Draw Leash from Ruffwear!

The Quick Draw Leash gives you the security and control of the leash when you need it and your dog carries it around himself just like a collar. Just clip the Quick Draw on to your dog's existing collar and wrap it around and your dog won't even know that he is actually wearing a leash. When you need to quickly get control and use the leash, just pull the quick release tab and the collar releases and turns into a short leash!

The Quick Draw Leash is now 25% off from Ruffwear.com, so if you and your pup have off-leash excursions in your future, now is the time to get prepared!

Soothing Neem Shampoo

Ancient Indian texts refer to Neem as "the curer of all ailments." The Neem tree is an evergreen, found in the tropical dry deciduous and thorny forests in countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Japan, and parts of Africa and Australia. Every part of the tree has a medicinal use. Neem oil is excellent for it's healing properties and is used in creams, shampoos, lotions and soaps. It also has insect repellent properties, and applied at the correct dilution it is used as a non-toxic flea, fly and tick repellent.

I became aware of Neem via a dog blog. The dog in question has bad skin allergies - dry skin, itchies, scabs etc. After using a combination of Neem products, his skin improved drastically. As my dog Axel gets seasonal skin allergies, I was curious to see how it would work with Axel. The company, Neem Resource, sent me a wonderful selection of their products including Therapeutic Neem Oil Pet Shampoo, Neem Oil & Karanja Oil Soap, Extra Strong Neem Oil, Karanja Oil & Sesame Salve and Neem Oil to try and to review.

So far we have only used the shampoo - see Axel in his Neem bath at left (look at the color of the water!). It is described as "great for hot spots, flea bites, dermatitis and all skin irritations." After working the lovely smelling shampoo into Axel's coat, we let it stand for 5 minutes as directed and then hosed him off. The shampoo left his skin smooth and nourished, and his coat gleams. We will definitely continue to use it, especially as the seasonal allergy season moves in. In future posts, I will review the other Neem products.

Neem shampoo can be purchased here: $12.95/12 fl.oz. NEW Economy Size - $36.95/64 fl. oz.

Marley and Me

I know, I did write about this back in December but I was finally able to watch it today and it was wonderful. I honestly did not want to cry at the theater, nor did my better half. Now while this isn't a pet product exactly, if you purchase the exclusive it includes the "Marley & Me" DVD and a Collectible "Marley & Me: Pictures To Chew On" Photo Book. So not only do you get the movie and extras, you also get the photo book. Now for something else to chew on, you can only get this version at Wal-Mart. If you don't plan to shop at Wal-Mart you can still get this excellent movie on Blu-Ray and regular DVD format. The cost for the exclusive edition is $19.99 and the Blu-Ray will run you about $29.99 or less on sale.

See the movie and if you want a little something special, get the exclusive edition.
